A Catalyst for Change

Canada’s health care system is in crisis. Our population is growing and getting older. In every province and neighbourhood, health services are stretched thin by the increasing need. For people who are socially isolated, marginalized or experiencing homelessness, and for Indigenous Peoples and frail older adults, the gaps in care can be insurmountable. Saint Elizabeth Foundation leverages the resources of SE Health and more than a century of service to our communities to act as a catalyst for change. We’re working together with donors, sponsors, other organizations, and volunteers to provide leadership and lasting impacts on community infrastructure and end-of-life care for Canadians most in need.

Coming Home to Journey Home Hospice

Given the choice, most of us would spend our last days in the comfort of home with the people we love. But what if you’re isolated and alone, marginalized or homeless? For Peter, hard-core life on the street was all he knew. Faced with a terminal cancer diagnosis, would he now die on the street? Journey Home Hospice gave Peter a safe haven. “Not in the Street” is a documentary about Peter, the hospice, and our mission of caring for vulnerable Canadians.

Stories of Impact

1,500 Stories Shared in Reflection Rooms

Developed in 2016 by the SE Research Centre in collaboration with Memorial University, the Reflection Room project has created participatory art installations across Canada and online. The research revealed how storytelling helps people process emotions such as grief.
